Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q:
Who can benefit from AccuPoint?
A:
Disabled veterans, accident victims – anyone who is unable to operate a standard keyboard and mouse due to physical limitations but has some head control is likely to benefit from AccuPoint. People with other disabling conditions, such as ALS and cerebral palsy, can also benefit from AccuPoint.
Q:
I’ve never used a computer before. How long will it take to learn AccuPoint?
A:
You don’t have to be a computer geek to master AccuPoint. Even novice computer users learn to use the AccuPoint Talking Words program quickly and easily, often in as little as one hour. Of course – as always – practice makes perfect; the more you use AccuPoint, the faster and more accurate you will become.
Q:
What do I need to use AccuPoint?
A:
If you have the ability to intentionally move your head, fingers or toes even slightly, you are a good candidate for AccuPoint. Text is input via the on-screen keyboard, and mouse clicks are accomplished through the use of alternative switches, such a sip-and-puff pneumatic switch, or by dwell-clicking. All you need is a computer running Windows XP or later with a USB port and a little determination—we’ll supply the rest.
Q:
What is dwell-clicking?
A:
Dwell-clicking is an alternative method for performing mouse clicks. In simple terms, the software monitors cursor movements; when the cursor remains in one place for a pre-determined amount of time, a mouse click is initiated.
Q:
Will Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance help to pay for AccuPoint?
A:
Funding sources for Assistive Technology (AT) devices, such as AccuPoint, are scarce. When AccuPoint is used as an access device to an Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) device it is fundable through insurance and Medicaid. An AAC evaluation center can determine if you qualify for AAC funding.
Q:
Will AccuPoint work with Naturally Speaking® speech recognition software?
A:
Yes – many of our users use Naturally Speaking in conjunction with AccuPoint.
Q:
Can I use AccuPoint with advanced or proprietary software applications?
A:
With AccuPoint Talking Words software (included), you’ll have everything you need to perform basic writing functions. For more advanced users and those who need to work with more sophisticated applications, we recommend AccuKeys on-screen keyboard, which is also included with AccuPoint. AccuKeys works with the vast majority of computer applications, but a few programs (typically computer games) use proprietary keyboard input methods that are, unfortunately, incompatible. If you find that a program is not accessible with AccuKeys, please contact InvoTek technical support () and let us know. Our Off-Screen Keyboard will provide a hardware-based input method that is accessible with AccuPoint and works with all programs.
Q:
Will AccuPoint work with third-party on-screen keyboards?
A:
Yes. However, we recommend the AccuKeys on-screen keyboard that comes with AccuPoint. AccuKeys eliminates the need for third-party keyboards and is specifically designed for the AccuPoint tracking system.
Q:
How does AccuPoint compare with other head tracking products?
A:
AccuPoint is the only movement-tracking system that offers Absolute Tracking™. That means greater cursor control and tracking accuracy, reduced need for recalibration, and increased efficiency. And although other systems may appear to cost less, AccuPoint is a comprehensive system that includes all necessary software and hardware. When you put it all together, AccuPoint’s price is comparable to other systems on the market.
Q:
What methods of payment do you accept?
A:
We accept check, money order, or purchase orders from qualified institutions as well as payment online via Pay Pal (Accepts American Express, Discover, MasterCard and Visa).
